Renata Fernández

Renata Fernandez was born in Venezuela and she is based in London since 2003. She is a multidisciplinary artist whose artistic expressions are large format drawings, paintings, installations, immersive pieces - drawing, painting and sculpture and digital works.

All her most recent work in painting, drawing, sculpture and installation derive from reflections on camouflage dating back to 2003 with the Iraq invasion. This opened in her a profound need to explore the genre of landscape as an otherworldly setting constructed with what seem elusive fragments of memories.

Renata uses elements of landscape as signifiers while knocking at the door of the collective subconscious. Her landscapes are set usually in settings with a static narrative, devoid of people, all while Renata searches for a ”Menacing Beauty”: as attractive as uneasy, mesmerising as it is broody that lets us believe there is something intangible behind the foliage that could be distinctly unfriendly.
